SUCCESS STORIES
Yoshuwa is a seven year old boy
with cerebral palsy who is undergoing home based education under BRC Ernakulam.
He is the resident of Konthuruthy Ernakulam, studying in std 2 in St.Mary’s UPS
Thevara. Yoshuwa’s family consists of his father and mother. His mother had to
drop her job since her son requires special care.
This child was identified during the last year’s IEDC out of school
children survey. He was then enrolled to std 1 of St.Mary’s UPS Thevara
Ernakulam. He is a boy with cerebral palsy scissoring gate. He moves from one
place to other using both legs and hands. When he was identified, at the
initial stage, he only pronounced ‘hai baby’ and ‘tria’ without clarity. Child’s
all self care skills were been done by his mother. In strange places the child
used to scream and throw things all over and do not corporate at all.
During this situation Aswathy A A , Resource Teacher of BRC Ernakulam
visited Yoshuwa’s house once in every week to provide Home Based Education.
Through continuous training Aswathy A A could find changes in the child.
The boy is being given facial massage, oral massage, massage using
sensory brush, exercises for the movement of lips, tongue etc, squeeze sponge
in fine motor activity, wheat flour squeezing, holding and releasing of
objects, ring puzzles arranging etc.
As
a result of this training the boy started saying Swaraaksharangal (A, B, C, Cu, D, Du ), ‘Chechi’, sound
of kukoo, mother’s name etc very clearly. Now he tries to say new words also. The tremendous changes in
the child ensures good development through continuous and thorough training.
